  20. This special definition update release adds the capability to detect
  21. and repair the first Excel Macro virus, XM.Laroux.  This virus is not
  22. considered widespread, and does not pose a significant public threat.
  23. Please read the TECHNOTE.TXT file for information on adding the Excel
  24. extension to your program file list.

  31. ** Intelligent Updater                                              **

  33. As part of its continuing commitment to fight the spread of computer
  34. viruses, Symantec has developed a new program called "Intelligent
  35. Updater" to simplify virus definitions files updates. 
  36.  
  37. Intelligent Updater locates Norton AntiVirus on your computer and
  38. installs new virus definitions files automatically. All you have
  39. to do is run the program. 
  40.  
  41. The actual program name for Intelligent Updater, which changes from
  42. month to month, uses the following form: 
  43.  
  44.    mmNAVyy.EXE, where mm is the month and yy is the year.
  45.  
  46. For example, 10NAV96.EXE is the virus definitions files update for
  47. October, 1996. See the accompanying file, "UPDATE.TXT," for
  48. step-by-step instructions to run the program for each Norton 
  49. AntiVirus version.

  53. ** Norton AntiVirus Program Upgrade for Macro Viruses               **
  54. **********************************************************************
  55. Norton AntiVirus detects and eliminates a new class of viruses called
  56. "macro viruses" that infect Microsoft Word document and template
  57. files. All current versions of Norton AntiVirus have this capability.
  58.  
  59. If your installed version of Norton AntiVirus 3.0 (NAV.EXE or
  60. NAVW.EXE) is dated earlier than February 23, 1996, or your installed
  61. version of Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 (NAVW32.EXE) is dated
  62. earlier than December 1, 1995, you need to upgrade. The Norton
  63. AntiVirus upgrade installs the NAV Macro Engine automatically, which
  64. detects and eliminates macro viruses.

  66. To upgrade your Norton AntiVirus 3.0 program:
  67.  
  68.   * Download the file called UPDATEME.EXE
  69.   * Place the file in an empty directory and execute the file
  70.     to extract.

  72. To upgrade your Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 program:
  73.  
  74.   * Download the file called NAV95PCH.EXE
  75.   * Place the file in an empty folder and execute the file
  76.     to extract.

  79. need additional instructions, a FaxBack service is available

  82. UPDATEME.EXE and NAV95PCH.EXE are located where the monthly virus
  83. definitions files update are normally found. It is available for
  84. download from the Symantec BBS, the Symantec FTP or Web site,
  85. CompuServe, America Online, or Microsoft Network. You can also call
  86. Customer Service at (800) 441-7234 to order a disk set.
